Our team manually reviews profiles and submitted documents where provided. Look for review badges in the app and read how verification works. Report suspicious profiles immediately and take time to get to know someone before sharing personal information.
Use our guardian mode feature to involve family members in conversations. This aligns with Islamic values and provides an additional layer of protection and guidance.
Never share financial information, home address, or workplace details until you have thoroughly vetted the person with family involvement. Use platform messaging initially.
When meeting in person, always choose public locations and inform family members. Consider bringing a family member to early meetings. Trust your instincts.
If someone asks for money, behaves inappropriately, or makes you uncomfortable, report them immediately in the app. We review reports and take action that can include warnings or removal. You can also email mariyam@barkatapp.com with "safety" in the subject if you cannot use in-app reporting.
Stay on Barkat chat until you are comfortable involving family. Do not send copies of ID, bank details, OTP codes, or workplace addresses to a new match. Money requests, crypto stories, and pressure to move to WhatsApp immediately are common scam patterns—report them. A serious rishta can wait for a parent or wali to join.
Choose a public place. Tell a family member where you are going and when you expect to leave. Early meetings with a mahram or parent present match how many educated Muslim families actually proceed toward nikah. If you feel unsafe, leave. Barkat staff will never ask you to meet privately or pay a matchmaker fee outside the official Exclusive channel.
Manual review reduces fake and incomplete profiles; it cannot certify character. Keep using judgment, family references, and time. Read how verification works, and treat badges as one signal among many—not a substitute for talking to people who know the family.
