Who we are
Barkat (Barkat App) is a Muslim matrimony app based in New Delhi, India, founded October 2025. Canonical website: https://barkatapp.com.
Co-founders Tahir Ahmad and Simran Ahmad are Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) alumni. They built Barkat after watching educated Muslims bounce between rishta aunties and dating-styled apps. Read the founder story.
Eligibility
- University graduates and currently enrolled students in degree programmes
- First-time nikah profiles only. Barkat does not currently accept second-marriage, divorced, or widowed listings.
- Nikah-focused matchmaking. Not a dating or casual chat app.
How verification works
Every profile is manually reviewed by the Barkat team before it goes live.
- Government-issued photo ID where submitted (Aadhaar, passport, or driving licence).
- Degree certificates, mark sheets, or university ID where submitted.
- Employment letters, professional registration, or business proof where submitted.

Privacy, family, and price
Photo and contact visibility stay under the member’s control until they choose to share.
Guardian and parent access so families can participate without turning nikah into a public feed.
Profile creation, manual verification, and chat after a match are free. Optional premium tools are shown in-app before purchase.

Priority search cities: Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Lucknow, Aligarh, Patna, Kolkata, Kerala (Malabar and Kochi).
Countries served: India, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Singapore.
